Backgammon – 3 Main Plans
Posted by Nicolas in Backgammon on January 7, 2019
In exceptionally simple terms, there are 3 fundamental plans used. You must be able to switch strategies almost instantly as the course of the match unfolds.
The Blockade
This comprises of assembling a 6-thick wall of checkers, or at least as deep as you can achieve, to barricade in your competitor’s pieces that are on your 1-point. This is judged to be the most adequate strategy at the begining of the game. You can create the wall anyplace inbetween your 11-point and your two-point and then shuffle it into your home board as the game progresses.
The Blitz
This consists of locking your home board as quick as possible while keeping your opponent on the bar. i.e., if your challenger tosses an early 2 and moves one piece from your 1-point to your 3-point and you then roll a 5-5, you are able to play six/one 6/1 8/3 eight/three. Your challenger is now in big-time dire straits taking into account that they have 2 checkers on the bar and you have closed half your inside board!
The Backgame
This plan is where you have 2 or higher anchors in your competitor’s home board. (An anchor is a point occupied by at least 2 of your pieces.) It should be used when you are significantly behind as this plan greatly improves your opportunities. The better places for anchors are near your competitor’s lower points and also on adjoining points or with a single point separating them. Timing is critical for a competent backgame: at the end of the day, there’s no reason having 2 nice anchor spots and a complete wall in your own home board if you are then forced to dismantle this right away, while your competitor is moving their checkers home, owing to the fact that you do not have any other spare checkers to shift! In this situation, it is better to have checkers on the bar so that you might maintain your position until your opponent provides you an opportunity to hit, so it will be a wonderful idea to try and get your opponent to get them in this case!

Backgammon is the oldest game in recorded history. Also known as the "wee battle," backgammon began in ancient Iraq over 5 millennia ago. In any case, Egyptians referred to backgammon as "Senat," which is a close form of the present game enjoyed today. Hundreds of years ago, just people of influence, the ruling figures of royalty like Egyptian kings, were allowed to enjoy. The game started to spread worldwide since then. Backgammon and competing old games were never acknowledged by a great many faiths. The clergy felt that the game was the work of Satan. This led clergy to blacklist and burn the game. The banishment and burning had never stop many people taking part in games and enjoying themselves.
