The Essential Basics of Backgammon Game Plans – Part 2

As we dicussed in the previous article, Backgammon is a casino game of ability and pure luck. The goal is to shift your checkers safely around the game board to your inside board and at the same time your opposing player shifts their chips toward their inside board in the opposite direction. With opposing player checkers moving in opposing directions there is going to be conflict and the need for specific tactics at specific times. Here are the last two Backgammon strategies to complete your game.

The Priming Game Plan

If the goal of the blocking strategy is to hamper the opponents ability to shift her pieces, the Priming Game plan is to completely barricade any movement of the opponent by constructing a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The opponent’s pieces will either get hit, or end up in a battered position if she ever attempts to leave the wall. The ambush of the prime can be built anywhere between point two and point eleven in your game board. As soon as you have successfully assembled the prime to stop the activity of your opponent, the competitor does not even get a chance to toss the dice, and you move your pieces and roll the dice yet again. You’ll win the game for sure.

The Back Game Strategy

The goals of the Back Game plan and the Blocking Game technique are similar – to hurt your opponent’s positions hoping to improve your odds of succeeding, however the Back Game tactic utilizes alternate techniques to achieve that. The Back Game plan is often utilized when you are far behind your competitor. To compete in Backgammon with this technique, you need to hold two or more points in table, and to hit a blot late in the game. This plan is more challenging than others to employ in Backgammon because it requires careful movement of your chips and how the chips are relocated is partially the outcome of the dice toss.
