The Essential Basics of Backgammon Strategies – Part 1

[ English ]

The goal of a Backgammon match is to shift your pieces around the Backgammon board and get them off the game board quicker than your opponent who works harder to do the same buthowever they move in the opposing direction. Winning a round of Backgammon requires both tactics and luck. How far you will be able to move your pieces is left to the numbers from rolling the dice, and just how you move your chips are determined by your overall playing tactics. Enthusiasts use a few techniques in the different parts of a match dependent on your positions and opponent’s.

The Running Game Tactic

The goal of the Running Game technique is to bring all your checkers into your inside board and get them off as fast as you can. This plan concentrates on the speed of advancing your pieces with no time spent to hit or block your competitor’s pieces. The best time to employ this technique is when you think you might be able to move your own checkers faster than the opposing player does: when 1) you have a fewer checkers on the game board; 2) all your pieces have past your competitor’s chips; or 3) your opposing player does not use the hitting or blocking technique.

The Blocking Game Strategy

The primary aim of the blocking technique, by the name, is to stop the competitor’s chips, temporarily, not worrying about shifting your checkers rapidly. Once you have created the blockade for your competitor’s movement with a few pieces, you can shift your other checkers quickly off the game board. You really should also have a clear plan when to extract and shift the chips that you employed for the blockade. The game gets interesting when the opposition utilizes the same blocking strategy.
